Film Synopsis

SIGHT, starring Greg Kinnear and Terry Chen, follows the inspiring true story of Ming Wang, an impoverished Chinese prodigy who flees Communist China to become a pioneering eye surgeon in America. When tasked with restoring the sight of an orphan who was blinded by her step mother, he must confront the trauma of living through the violent uprising in his youth, the Cultural Revolution.

Terry Chen is a Pacific Islander born in Edmonton, Canada. He moved around growing up but was raised mainly on the West Coast. After two years of traveling throughout Cuba and the Cayman Islands, Terry moved back to Vancouver, British Columbia to pursue his dream of being an actor. He made his debut in a supporting role as 'Ben Fong-Torres' in the much-lauded film Almost Famous, directed by Cameron Crowe. His performance has been praised in reviews from Variety magazine to Ebert & Roeper at the Movies.

Over the last two decades, Terry has had supporting and lead roles alongside the industries best; Memory (Dennis Hopper), Chronicles of Riddick (Vin Diesel), The A-Team (Liam Neeson) and Elysium (Matt Damon), to name a few. Terry filmed the ABC/Global drama Combat Hospital as series regular, US Captain Dr. Bobby Trang, as well as guest starred in series such as Bates Motel (A&E), Battlestar Galactica (NBC), Hawaii Five-0 (CBS) and The 100 (The CW). He recurred in the fan favorite Continuum (Showcase), and recurred in the award-winning series, House of Cards (Netflix). Terry also recurred in the final seasons of The Expanse (Amazon Prime), and as a lead in the second season of Jessica Jones (Netflix). He can also be seen in the four-part limited series Chimerica (Channel 4) and The Murders (CityTV). Terry starred opposite Viggo Mortenson in the critically acclaimed feature film, Falling which premiered at Sundance in 2020. Greg Kinnear is an Academy Award® nominee and Emmy Award® winning actor who continues to draw audiences and critical acclaim with diverse and interesting roles in both television and film. Kinnear’s list of television work is long and impressive. In addition to starring in Shining Vale, Kinnear currently stars in HBO’S hit limited series Black Bird, alongside Taron Egerton and Ray Liotta. BEN WANG is known for his starring role of ‘Jin Wang’ in the Disney+ series AMERICAN BORN CHINESE, produced by Kelvin Yu, Melvin Mar and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. In the event series, making his series regular debut, he starred in the lead role opposite Oscar winners Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan. Most recently, Wang can be seen as a part of the ensemble in the blockbuster sequel MEAN GIRLS 2 for Paramount Pictures. Next up, he’s currently in production in Sony’s latest franchise reimagined from Jonathan Entwistle in the titular role for the latest installment of THE KARATE KID. Ben was cast in the role after an extensive worldwide search where over ten-thousand submissions were received. He will star opposite franchise players Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan which will merge the universes together for the first time. The film is scheduled to release worldwide theatrically in December 2024.

Dr. Ming Wang, MD, PhD attended Harvard Medical School and MIT in the 1980s. Today he is a world-class eye surgeon, celebrated philanthropist, and community activist. He is the founding director of the internationally known Wang Vision Institute in Nashville, TN, which provides free-of-charge sight restoration surgeries for patients who otherwise would never have the opportunity to receive them. DAVID FISCHER is the head of Open River Entertainment. With an eye for stories that inspire hope and explore conversion, Fischer came across the story of Dr. Ming Wang and believed Wang’s life was destined for a feature film. In 2014, Fischer began to manage Ming Wang’s autobiography, From Darkness to Sight, which was published in 2015 by Dunham Publishing. In 2019, with script in hand, Fischer partnered with Darren Moorman of Reserve Entertainment, to help produce the film. Sight marks Open River’s debut in feature film.

Fischer has worked in law and finance for over 20 years. As an attorney, he has served clients seeking to make a difference through faith based initiatives with their finances, especially through philanthropy. From 2007 to 2011, Fischer was the director of legal affairs and gift planning for a foundation that has grown to 500MM+ invested assets to date. In 2011, Fischer began working in feature film and helped develop several films, managing and raising development financing. Fischer has been credited as an Executive Producer on Fatima (2020) starring Joaquim de Almeida and Harvey Keitel and Sweetwater (2023) starring Cary Elwes, Kevin Pollak, and Richard Dreyfus. Fischer takes on producing projects that make a transformational impact on culture through Open River Entertainment. Fischer also serves as President of Saint Paul’s Outreach in St. Paul, Minnesota sustaining a $20MM annual budget to support university students in their faith journey.

ANDREW HYATT is the award-winning writer/director of the historical drama, Paul, Apostle of Christ, which was released by Sony Pictures and Affirm Films in 2018, starring Jim Caviezel and James Faulkner. Made for a modest budget of $5MM, the film has grossed over $26.5MM in worldwide BO. Hyatt recently co-wrote/directed The Blind, the true story of the Robertson family long before their Duck Dynasty fame, which was released in 2023 by Fathom Events, marking its strongest theatrical release and grossed 17.3MM in worldwide BO.

Hyatt has been credited with paving the way towards a new genre of films termed “sacred art house.” Hyatt was awarded a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' from the National Catholic Museum of Art in Washington, DC and the film was nominated for 'Most Inspirational Film' at the 2018 GMA Dove Awards and 'Most Inspiring Film' at the 2019 MovieGuide Awards. Hyatt also received a prestigious Christopher Award in the Feature Film category at the 70th Annual Christopher Awards in 2019.

Hyatt's passion is in the creation of content that is deeply personal, seeking to tell stories that delve deeper into the drama of the human condition. Exploring good and evil, truth and beauty. Hyatt's film Full of Grace is the first film in history to focus on the final days of Mary of Nazareth. Released by Cinedigm in January of 2016, the film has been screened all around the world and praised for its unique insight into the humanity of often generically portrayed historical figures. It was the winner of 'Best Screenplay' at the 2015 John Paul II International Film Festival, and the winner of 'Best Film' at the 2016 Gabriel Awards. Hyatt is an alum of Loyola Marymount University. Working with Paramount Pictures, Darren produced Same Kind of Different as Me. The movie starred Academy Award® nominated actors Renee Zellweger, Greg Kinnear, Djimon Hounsou, and Jon Voight. Darren also created and produced the television show Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest with Lionsgate. Reserve Entertainment’s latest release was Blue Miracle (Netflix Original), which starred Dennis Quaid.

Reserve just wrapped principal photography on a few other features including, The Hill starring Dennis Quaid, Boys of Summer starring Mel Gibson and Kevin James, and Sweetwater starring Cary Elwes, Kevin Pollak, and Richard Dreyfus.
