Angel Studios, the platform empowering filmmakers with full creative control to crowdfund and create, has reached a new theatrical milestone. Its independent summer hit, SOUND of FREEDOM, has now sold over 8.9 million tickets, and the film has now passed $100M in box office revenue.

“SOUND of FREEDOM has become the people’s movie. It was chosen by over 100,000 people in the Angel Guild, fueled by untold tens of thousands through our Pay it Forward program, and is dominating the box office as the result of a ground-up, grassroots movement of everyday people who are making this an historic success,” said Jared Geesey, SVP of Global Distribution with Angel Studios. “This is the opposite of the top down system developed by Hollywood gatekeepers. We are empowering people to be part of choosing, funding, and sharing stories that amplify light and impact culture.”

The Angel Guild is a community of over 100k people who are the most engaged in the Angel Studios’ network. The Angel Guild votes on all eligible films submitted to Angel Studios. Filmmakers must pass the Angel Guild to be distributed by Angel Studios.

SOUND of FREEDOM continues to dominate the US box office. Demand has allowed the film’s screen count to continue to increase, reaching a third week total of 3,287. Since the films’ July 4 release, SOUND of FREEDOM has never left the top 3 positions on the charts and has totaled over $100M in domestic box office.

Starring Jim Caviezel (THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, FREQUENCY, DEJA VU), Academy Award Winner Mira Sorvino (THE FINAL CUT, “Psych,” AFTER EVER HAPPY), Bill Camp (12 YEARS A SLAVE, “The Queen’s Gambit,” JOKER), José Zúñiga (TWILIGHT, “Madam Secretary,” “American Crime Story”), Eduardo Verástegui (UNPLANNED, SON OF GOD, PAUL BLART: MALL COP 2), who is also a producer, and written and directed by Alejandro Monteverde (Toronto winner “Bella” and "Little Boy”).

SOUND OF FREEDOM, based on the incredible true story, shines a light on even the darkest of places. After rescuing a young boy from ruthless child traffickers, a federal agent learns the boy’s sister is still captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her. With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death.
