The NAVY Scorpion Submarine
In 1968, a Navy submarine sunk on the way back from the North Atlantic Ocean. A 20-mile radius was targeted as the search area based on the last known location of the vessel. Locating the submarine would be a near impossible task. However, a Naval Officer had the idea to bring in a diverse group of people, allowing each to guess where they thought the submarine would be.
The Navel Officer combined the responses of the individuals together and used a mathematical formula to calculate the group's collective guess of where the submarine would be located. No single individual pinpointed the correct location, but the collective group's guess was within 220 yards of the submarine's actual location!
